God, Religion, Atheism and Me !!
61
I believe. I believe that there is someone who takes care of me and helps me. Why? Lets just say life’s teachings. I have named that ‘someone’ God. I am not a very religious man but neither am I an atheist. I have my beliefs but I don’t take things just because they are written in books. I don’t ask for proof on everything but the ‘you got to have faith’ thing doesn’t work either.
The idea for the hub came while having a discussion with a
fellow hubber johnb0127 on his hub about God.. This belief, faith and God thing has confused
and made me ponder quite a few times in the past few years. On the one hand,
there is my belief but then there is Science with all its ‘Its not tangible’
talk. You’ll find people on both sides use the same argument in their own
styles. Like the Earth being the only planet with life in the universe. A
believer would say, “Can’t you see, God gave us the earth, He chose and
provided us with everything optimum for evolution”. But then you would find a
scientist rambling “Oh yeah, why then did He create only one of this Earth and
not more, why create something that great and stop”.
Religion. Some of the religions require you to follow them in order to go to heaven. There are a lot that do not but most of them are today presided over by bigots who make you believe the same as the first type. I have nothing against religion or religious people, just a few questions:
- How can you say that your God is kind and understanding when He says (well, whatever a religion preaches basically comes from their Idol, right?) either you follow me or go to Hell.
- If you believe in something, isn’t that enough? Why the heck do you need your neighbour, your friend, your Boss to also believe? What’s more important to you, your faith or your neighbour’s.

See results without votingI am not a God fearing man; I am a God loving man. My parents created me, they brought me into this world, I never feared them (except for when I failed my classes), I love them. So that should work for God too.
My God is my teacher, I am not afraid to ask him questions. And I don’t ask please give me faith. I ask please tell me why I should have faith. I am his disciple, He’s there to help me learn, if I can’t question what he teaches me, I am not a student, I am blind follower. What do you do with a teacher who tells you, you are not supposed to ask that kind of questions; I say ‘Thank You’ and move on.
I believe in only one way to decide about my after life (if there is one). I am going to live my life to the fullest and in the way I presume to be right i.e. help people and don’t hurt anyone. I think if I can live that way for the entirety, I’ll happily embrace whatever comes next. Heck, come on guys, we have been sent into this world, and now you say give it all up for the eternal heaven. Why send us here then. If I am here, I would rather be happy.
What’s the Point ….
There Is no point. There is no message I would like to send
through this hub. I am just thinking out loud. Just wanted to share something I
have talked to myself about for long.
I don’t mind people taking offense or those with counter views, as long as they are logical. How do you talk to someone who says nothing else apart from ‘That’s blasphemy!’
God on hubpages
Atheism anyone?

Thanks for the link :)
A comment on your quote, "Heck, come on guys, we have been sent into this world, and now you say give it all up for the eternal heaven. Why send us here then. If I am here, I would rather be happy."
Maybe re-phrase the question reading, "Why did God put us on this earth instead of sending us straight to heaven?"
Here is your answer:
Matthew 10:22 "...but he who stands firm to the end will be saved."
God put us on this earth to see if we can survive through it's trials and hardships and accept him as Lord and Savior. Christians are then supposed to carry the gospel throughout the world so that others can recieve the good news and go to heaven.
--John
I'd rather skip the trials and get to heaven. Christians should accept other people's beliefs too and let them think how they want.
Excellent Hub! I love it, many valid questions and concerns. I will put my responses in a hub seeing that the qestions are many. I will entitle the hub "The Case for God, part 1"
We are fans of each other now ! :D
Great Hub Abihishek...keep on hubbin" !!!
Life is Good and Great and full of Love and Light.
God is a name given to that Great Source of Energy from which all has come...and to it we are to return...even better than which we went forth from it !
We are like a spark from the Great God Flame, meant to light up the world !
Lvoe and Peace
yes believe in God
Abhishek- Your views are somewhat similar to mine and this hub indeed is "100% Awesome". I also believe that even when we don't find the answers we are looking for immediately then that shouldn't stop us from asking those questions. Even my parents have always encouraged me to ask those questions. And also I find no harm in joyful celebrations like Holi, Diwali, Christmas or Id as they are all wonderful celebration of human spirit. And at the same time when we understand others and love/respect them then we may be in principle following some of the common basics in all religions to be kind/loving. In fact long back I have written a hub on these line which you can check out (sorry if it seems self promotional) http://hubpages.com/hub/My-GOD-is-better-than-your
I believe and God knows I believe so that is what matters, I have to take care of myself and get right and not argue with the world as I could I save souls if I am not walking perfectly with God? I do believe , I do believe and thanks for sharing the face of Jesus as another reminder that he is real.:)
Wonderful hub Abhishek. I love the part about being 'God loving' instead of 'God fearing'...so many people associate God with fire and brimstone it's a wonder they don't become nervous wrecks!
I really enjoyed your hub, and your questions. I believe that is where religion should start, is by one asking themselves questions instead of just taking someone's word for it.
"I cannot conceive of a personal God who would directly influence the actions of individuals, or would directly sit in judgment on creatures of his own creation. I cannot do this in spite of the fact that mechanistic causality has, to a certain extent, been placed in doubt by modern science. [He was speaking of Quantum Mechanics and the breaking down of determinism.] My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little that we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality. Morality is of the highest importance -- but for us, not for God." (Albert Einstein,The Human Side, edited by Helen Dukas and Banesh Hoffman, Princeton University Press)
At this point and time in my life, After doing my research and asking myself questions, I am in agreement with Albert Einstein
Sincerely,
Whikat
really it is a worhless defect of comunity.
i liked ur subject
Goldentoad, what would you do if you discovered that there is no purpose to any of this? It's not so bad to know that there is no purpose at all, is it? Would you rather know the truth or be fooled into believing in a hoax?
We live simply because we are alive, no magic, no holy mysteries, just life, meant for us to enjoy alone and with others, to do good things and help our species become better day by day.
Imagine no religion, it's easy if you try.
A very thought-provoking read. You certainly are a thinker. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Wonderful Hub and very insightful too. Thumbs up
I disagree with John when he said that if you do not believe in the Christian God, than you will go to Hell. This does not sound like a great God if he banishes his creations from his backyard in Heaven. But it doesn;t matter John because you have been decieved.. along with millions of other followers.
Here is the kicker people.. Heaven and Hell are the same place. It is just the address of the party you are going to when you die. Hell is not a bad thing, it is just across the street where people like different kinds of music (different religions). Heaven would be for the snot noses who only like their own class (Christians). They will cast outsiders apart from the rest of them, and that is why there is a Hell. The bible will lead you to believe that is is bad, and you must turn to save your soul.. This is rediculous, and so is the bible... If you are a good person, than you will do great afterlife no matter where you go...
Goldentoad, maybe there is no point to it all. I know that's a heavy thing to say but what if it's true? Why does there need to be a point to it all? Maybe it makes us feel better but if the truth is that we are here for no reason at all, it kind of puts a whole different light on things, doesn't it?
No, I am not a believer and I have no reason to believe. I also do not think there is some grand plan we are fulfilling. I see no proof, evidence or indication other than what people want to believe that there is any reason at all for any one to exist.
Live life to the fullest and enjoy what time you have.

Its a good read, I believe in God, I have to, otherwise, I don't see any point to any of this.
